How do I Keep Mosquitoes Off My Dog?
I want to tell you about this new mosquito protection for dogs that I recently found out about! It’s such a great product that I want everyone to be aware of it, especially since mosquitoes and other insects are carrying so many diseases these days that can make your dogs, or even the humans in your family, very sick.
My family is concerned about diseases like the Zika virus, West Nile virus, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which are all transmitted by insects like mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. This product will keep mosquitoes off dogs, and prevent them from carrying insects into the house, where they could sicken your family.
I am very excited about these new fabrics that are embedded with an insecticide called permethrin, which is actually made from the chrysanthemum flower. This technique has been used for military clothing for many years, but it has only recently become marketed in pet products.
I really love the tee-shirts and tanks made for dogs that will keep mosquitoes and other insects away. The insecticide is actually embedded into the fabric, so it does not get into your dog’s system. It stays outside your pet. When the animal comes inside the house, you take the shirt off, and your furry friend is no longer exposed to the chemical in any way. He only needs it when he is outdoors.
Your pet will look cute while he stays safe from bug’s bothering him. This comfy dog shirt comes in orange or green, and is available in seven sizes, from extra-small all the way up to XX-large.
When the shirt gets dirty, you can wash it in the machine. The permethrin treatment will remain in the fabric for the life of the garment, which for dogs is estimated to be twenty washes. You will want to line dry your dog’s shirt to make sure the treatment remains in the fabric as long as possible.
Insect Shield Insect Repellent Dog Blanket
The Best Mosquito Repellent for Dogs
The tee-shirts are fantastic for active animals who enjoy running around outside. For less active animals, you should consider getting an Insect Shield Blanket.
I had a senior miniature pincher a few years ago who liked to take naps out in the yard. Tito would have probably preferred to have one of the blankets instead of a shirt. He could relax on the blanket and take long naps without being bothered by mosquitoes, ticks and other bugs out in the backyard.
I wish something like this had been available when he was alive. I am sure it would have made his life a lot more comfortable, especially when he was old and already suffering from arthritis and other problems. It would have really been a blessing to be able to keep the bugs off of him while he was enjoying his favorite activity of napping in the yard.
Like the tee-shirts, the blankets are machine washable. You should line dry this blanket to preserve the permethrin in it for as long as possible.
Some of the Amazon reviews mention that this is not a fluffy blanket. It’s thin. It is not designed for warmth. It’s purpose is to keep mosquitoes, fleas, ticks and other bugs off your dog.
And, of course, it will work for humans who may be sitting on it as well. So, it might be great to have for the family while sitting in the backyard, for picnics or camping. It isn’t marketed that way, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work!
You should probably keep cats off the blanket though. Felines should not be bothered by this fabric, but they are susceptible to permethrin and should not ingest it. I am not sure whether it could get on their fur or skin and they might possibly lick it off and get it inside them that way. There is probably a very slim chance of this happening, but just to be on the safe side, I would keep my cats off this blanket.
Like the shirts, this blanket comes in either orange or green. And, it’s available in two sizes: 56 x 48 inches, and 74 x 56 inches.
